EXECUTIVE TEAM DEVELOPMENT IN LAKE TAHOE, CA (USA)

Objective

  • To design a team challenge as a tool for group analysis and a deep dive discussion of team dynamics

Details

  • 20 executives, 1 private chef, 1 executive coach, 2 Adventure Architects hosts

  • Full day off-site in South Lake Tahoe

The Experience

At 9am the Adventure Architects hosts interrupt the team’s formal meeting by loudly banging on their ski cabin door. When a few people come to the door to investigate the commotion, the group finds two Adventure Architects hosts frantically explaining that their friend who was out cross country skiing has dropped communication and that due to the previous evening’s storm and high avalanche danger condition, they are worried she may have been buried. They ask to come inside and brief them on the situation bringing with them a scattering of materials that may help them with the rescue mission.

The Group is tasked with

  • self organizing the rescue mission

  • locating the body with a compass and map in tandem with avalanche beacon

  • extracting the victim

  • building a warming fire and shelter to wait out a fictional incoming storm before evacuating

  • educating themselves on proper protocols

Team dynamics and mission execution are closely observed by an executive coach. After a hot gourmet lunch in the snow, the team returned to the warmth and comfort of their cabin where the executive coach hosted a fireside debrief.
